Welcome to the Association of Information Technology Professionals Website. We are the association for Baylor MIS majors. AITP is a professional organization for students planning careers in information systems or related professions. AITP intends to complement and expand classroom studies giving MIS majors opportunities to network with IT professionals and learn more about the IT industry. We host dinners and events to showcase the quality of our MIS majors to corporate recruiters and to provide MIS majors with career development mentoring.
We are a local chapter of the National AITP Organization. All junior MIS majors become members of AITP when they register for the orientation. If you would like to join AITP please contact Jessica Potter and she will register you. You can also join our group on Facebook.
For the 2009-2010 school year we have several exciting events planned.
All MIS majors are considered part of Baylor's local student AITP chapter. Currently, no fees are required for students to take an active role in AITP. There are several volunteer opportunities for students who want to help with AITP events.
Contact one of our officers for more information on how you can help or feel free to e-mail our faculty sponsor, Dr. Hope Koch with any questions or comments.
The Baylor student chapter has a private server running Debian Linux. All our websites are hosted on this server. The server allows members to gain hands-on experience with services such as web, mail, and sql databases.
AITP generally meets once each month during the fall and spring semesters. During these meetings we invite guests from industry to discuss current IT trends and to discuss career options with their companies. Leading companies such as ConocoPhillips, McLane Advanced Technologies, USAA, Protiviti, Southwest Airlines, Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, FEDEX, Accenture, ENFORM, ARGO DATA, Exxon Mobil, and Frito Lay have spoken to our students.
How do I get on the MIS leadership team? In the fall of each semester, the MIS department accepts applications to the leadership team. We will send the call for applications in October 2010. One of the best things you can do to have a strong application is run for AITP officer and participate in the MIS events.
How do I become an AITP officer? Student can apply to become an AITP officer in the spring of each semester. They serve as an officer for the fall and spring of the coming year. So, if a student applied to be an officer in April 2010, they would serve as an officer from August 2010-May 2011.
How do the IS leadership team and AITP work together? The goal of the IS leadership team is to provide AITP officers extensive training in leadership, recruiting and serving the IS program. The IS leadership team takes the IS leadership class in a spring semester. These students will serve as AITP officers for either the year after the leadership class or the semester before the leadership class. For example, if a student ran for AITP officer in April 2010, they would be an officer from August 2010-May 2011. If they performed well they would be invited into the IS leadership class in January 2011.
